The students are in a group, there are 4 tribes. They have to show respect and not kill people. When they feel uncomfortable, they don`t have to do the activity, they can happen. Tribes start in elementary school. It`s a way of engaging students intellectually, socially, emotionally. Tribes mean respect for all students. Great video! I like the idea of agreements because students are part of the process and they take responsibility for it. Tribal strategy is not new to these high school students, so when the teacher starts his day saying they are a tribal class, the students know exactly what he means. The three levels need to be addressed when I`m working with students, I`m evaluating their work, I value them – so, our next lessons, and they have to be part of that process, and Tribes is really an attitude that needs to be had on that, and it offers some strategies to facilitate that. I understand creating standards and expectations to create a positive learning environment, and it`s great that it`s consistent in the school district, but why is it called „Tribes“? It doesn`t seem unique in class compared to the „contracts“ I`ve seen in other teaching channel videos. Tribes is a step-by-step process to achieve specific learning goals.
